I’ve never been able to find the perfect bank for the girls so we finally decided to design and make our own. Perusing the aisles in the craft store, I found wooden boxes which I compartmentalized with an extra piece of balsa wood (also found at the craft store) and some E6000 glue. Slots in the top of the box were made with an X-acto knife.
Once all the pre-work was done, the girls had fun picking out and mod podging their paper onto the boxes as well as stamping the labels to help keep their money straight.
Hopefully we’ll start out the new year developing good money saving and spending habits.

Hey Randi!
Glad you like the idea. To clarify, tithing is 10% of our income that is donated to our church.
These are Great! Love this idea and especially a compartment for sharing. That one is never part of any of the budgeting banks I’ve seen for children.
What a cute idea! I remember having a bank that had three compartments — tithing, saving & spending.
This is such a wonderful idea!! I have to locate some boxes for us to use for ours!
PERFECT! WE have been looking for banks that have those same four compartments and could not find anything. We were using baby food jars and each kids had four, but that was a bit much. I’ll be making these soon! Thank you so much!
The only similar bank I’ve seen was a clear pig, I like this idea much better. The kids all just got piggy banks though, and since they don’t get an allowance, it’s not like they have much money to put in them, LOL. However, I’ve been wanting to do a ‘jar system’ (http://gailvazoxlade.com/blog/ which is similar I think to Dave Ramsey’s ideas), but I don’t want jars of money sitting on my counter, LOL. This would be a much better option.

I’ve seen a few that compartmentalized, but they never have the compartments we want and none of them are very cute.

That compartment is to save money that they can give to charities of their choice or to buy something for someone in need.
I’ve been wanting to get banks for my boys, too. I love the compartments and personalized paper of yours. But I really need a lock, since my youngest loves to get into containers. I have a pink Cash Box bank with a key AND dial lock that I got when I was a kid, but the key has been lost for decades and the dial lock isn’t a combination: you just turn it until it opens. Easy enough for a two year old, in fact. Which is why I’m still looking. So, just to send this out into the cyber-universe, if you ever come across a bank–or a box that can be made into a bank–with a real lock, please let me know!

I have yet to make these, but I am going to make a bank with 4 “jars” – they are actually clear vitamin containers, but they have the childproof lids on top, so the kids can’t take them off. My husband has a drummel and will drill slots into the lids and each jar will be one of these “compartments” dividing it up 30% / 70%: “tithing” (10%), “mission” (10%), “Savings”(10%) and “spending”(70%). This is the only thing I’ve found that would work like a lock.
