A Graduation Gift

by This is Carrie on June 16, 2008

Well, it looks like Princess got a little graduation gift after all.

Head Lice.

At least I figured it out before anyone else in the family got the little buggers (but not before we hung out with friends at the beach, cruised with friends at the swap meet, and sent her to primary). Crap.

Oh, you poor thing. I was too young to remember the event, but I remember my mom talking about the time my sister came home with head lice, and all the work it entailed. (She was still talking about it 40 years later, if that gives you a hint.)

P.S. Thanks for making my head itch. Curse my overactive imagination! I’m going to be scratching all day now!

kathi d – you better believe DH and I are suffering from the same overactive imagination – even though we are clear so far.

I was just scrolling down and saw your headline about lice.

In case you are still batteling the little buggers, here’s the solution.

One of my daughters caught it from school. (of course it’s my child with the nice thick hair…) I did all of the over the counter shampoos and the little combs. NONE of which works. I finally bought a tube of VO-5 hair dressing gunk. I took her hair, section by section and glopped the stuff on from the scalp to the end of the strands. Then I combed through that section. The lice stuck to the gel and I was able to get gobs of them out. (and I did this the day after I’d done another round of the “recommended treatments”). It worked like magic, although it was incredibly gross. Of course, I then had to wash her hair multiple times to get all the VO-5 out.

Never saw another one after that.
