In the Words of Mr. Incredible…

…I am not a big fan of “celebrating mediocrity”. So I was a little worried about Princesses Kindergarten Graduation. It turned out to be a perfectly simple little program with cute songs, handmade caps (no gowns, thank goodness), and rolled up “diplomas” that most of the little boys had ruined by the end of the “ceremony” in serious swordfights.

To my not-so-little-anymore-Princess:
I am sorry you were the only kid in kindergarten that didn’t have a “character backpack”. I am sorry other kids thought your lunchbox and the food inside of it was weird. And I am sorry we didn’t show up at graduation with a large stuffed bear and a bouquet balloons like many of the other parents.

All right, you got me, I’m not that sorry. But I will be sorry when you end up and therapy and I get stuck with the bill.

I once had to go to a preschool “graduation” with a male married friend to take video of the child at the mother’s request, because she had to work, and of course such a momentous occasion had to be documented.

The only fun part was that the other parents were buzzing about the dad showing up with the wrong woman and assuming the worst.

I’m jealous of the lunchbox, I think it’s awesome, not weird at all.

I thought I was the only mama whose child had a plain, non-character backpack and funny lunches. Hooray!

I agree with you. Graduations of any phase of school, except for the very end, seem silly. Congrats to her anyways!

I was the weird kid with home-made clothes, a lunch box with healthy food, and a plain back pack! By high school everyone was jealous… just keep it up!
