Cooking Stuff: Summer Pasta

by This is Carrie on June 18, 2008

Some of the most delicious meals I have ever had were delivered to me in the days following the birth of my first child. You could chalk it up to a sleep-deprived, famished, nursing, new mother thinking anything she didn’t have to make herself is absolutely divine, but this is recipe is still a favorite […]

Quotes on Lice

by This is Carrie on June 17, 2008

“Remember the days when I didn’t have lice?… I miss those days, mom.” – -Princess, age 5 So do I, so do I. On the painful process of combing through her hair with the nit comb: “This feels like a dragon is biting me.” I am sure her head does feel like it’s on fire. […]

NYMCN: T-shirt Transformations

by This is Carrie on June 17, 2008

Not Your Mama’s Craft Night (kindly hosted by my cool friend Kelly) consisted of T-shirt Transformations this month. In preparation, I made an infant gown pattern to share around (and a rockin’ sample to test the pattern). I also brought my latest pair of fab t-shirt crop pants (made from my turning-30-doesn’t-suck-because-I-am-at-a-Garth-Brooks-concert-T) and the how-to […]

Making Stuff: Father’s Day

by This is Carrie on June 16, 2008

I pulled out the tried and true freezer paper stenciling supplies to interpret Princess’ drawing of Daddy onto a tie to wear to church. We made one for Grandpa G too. Dad and Grandpa Portraits Oh, and two (almost 3) year old Pumpkin painted this great picture for Dad to hang in his office. She […]

A Graduation Gift

by This is Carrie on June 16, 2008

Well, it looks like Princess got a little graduation gift after all. Head Lice. At least I figured it out before anyone else in the family got the little buggers (but not before we hung out with friends at the beach, cruised with friends at the swap meet, and sent her to primary). Crap.

Thanks to you, Dad

by This is Carrie on June 15, 2008

Originally posted at here on June 16, 2007 Dad, thanks to you: I have to dedicate time each morning to keeping my bushy eyebrows under control. I have a nose that my friends call “defining” and “exotic” and I am still learning to love. I have beautiful dark brown eyes. I had the most interesting […]

In the Words of Mr. Incredible…

by This is Carrie on June 15, 2008

…I am not a big fan of “celebrating mediocrity”. So I was a little worried about Princesses Kindergarten Graduation. It turned out to be a perfectly simple little program with cute songs, handmade caps (no gowns, thank goodness), and rolled up “diplomas” that most of the little boys had ruined by the end of the […]

Mentos and A Father’s Love

by This is Carrie on June 14, 2008

originally posted here June 25, 2006. When I was a kid my dad would come home from work, about every other week, with a roll of Mentos in his pocket for me. It was always presented in the same way–half eaten, with the empty part of the tube twisted into a tight little tail. “Well […]

The Grass is Greener…

by This is Carrie on June 13, 2008

…in our next-door neighbors yard. But that’s because it’s fake. Yes-sir-ee. Fake grass. They just put it in. It smells funny, it glimmers in the sun and when it’s hot outside, it burns your feet, other than that it looks completely natural. I bet you are wondering how you take care of a fake lawn. […]

Bringing Back the Bedazzler

by This is Carrie on June 13, 2008

Back when the Bedazzler was rad, I didn’t have one. Nowadays their cool factor has pretty much dropped as low as the usage of the word ‘rad’ in common english languauge. But since I am no longer young, hip or cool I decided now is the perfect time for me to pick up the art […]
