Fourth of July (almost) 5K

by This is Carrie on July 4, 2009

Even though they said the route was just shy of a true 5K and the church sponsored race didn’t attract the same crowds as other races, I was still thrilled to place 2nd in my age group, 35th out of 150 with a time of 24:30ish (didn’t hear the last part of the time they called out and forgot to stop my watch).

Happy Independence Day!

Congrats!
If it was just short of 5k though, why didn't they just call it 3 miles?

I think all the Advertising was done before they t
finalized the course which had to be changed for safety issues. But yeah, it was basically 3 miles. 5K is catchier to market.

Yay! Nice work! I ran a 5k too!! of course I was a bit slower than you. I definitely didn't win a place, much to Ronin's dismay. He really wanted to wear the medal..

Why couldn't they just start the race on the corner of La Veta and Yorba? That probably would have made it a 5K. Maybe they didn't want people walking an extra 0.2 miles.
