BEFORE:
A too-big western shirt of Todd’s destined for the Goodwill but before it got stuffed in the bag, it called out to me, begging to be made into a skirt for Princess.
And I knew it had to have a yoke. It just so happened this western shirt had the perfect yoke on the back.
AFTER:
I think it might be one of my favorite refashions ever.
There isn’t even a hem. I ended up just tucking the bottom of the shirt under and tacking it in a few spots to keep it in place, creating a semi-bubble look.

I love it! The combo of the bubble and the yoke make the skirt! Perfect!

Yeah, this is a pretty amazing refashion. I am pregnant with a boy but your refashions make me want a girl! haha, just kidding, there is plenty to refashion for boys, right? But I do love the skirt.

You are such an inspiration. I love this look–it’s somehow so feminine, given it came from a plaid cowboy shirt, and so adorably original.
I have enjoyed a few dicey sewing exploits of my own ever since I linked to you from Design Mom (“dicey” because I have no sewing training nor half a clue about how to operate my Janome). But your blog got me thinking.
Thought you might like to see my latest!

Thanks, Carrie!
P.S. You may like to know my family did a shoe drive, having seen your Soles4Souls post as well. Great stuff!

Super Cute! Thanks for this! I’ll have to remember this one when I’m raiding my husband’s closet for more fabric!!

yes – definitely a favorite!
What did you do for a closure? Or is it just elastic in the back – I like the flat and fitted look of the yoke turned waist band.

Sorry guys! No pattern or directions at the moment. My advice for now would be -”don’t be afraid to just start cutting”. And really, someone else is bound to post their own tutorial for my design sooner than I will.

Love this! It would be awesome if you could post a tutorial. PS I ended up getting the ThreadBanger and I love it. Thanks so much for the advice.

You could use the cuffs to trim the shirt sleeves to make it match. But I am sure you already thought of that. Love the redesigns and it makes me want a girl. I have boys. Maybe some day I will have nieces…
