The Summer Starts with Mountain Bike Racing

by This is Carrie on June 12, 2010

I don’t know what else says “Summer’s here!” like the start of the Over the Hump Mountain Bike race series. Todd and I decided to take turns racing while the other one is in charge of the cheering section (aka: kids).  This year the course is awesome with the addition of a cool water bridge across the lake as well as the subtraction of the steep downhill section where there was often a 5 minute bottleneck to get down.

At the first race of the season, I took 5th place in my division with a time of 48:22 (for 7+mile course).   Todd raced the third race of the series in 1:05:06 (11+ mile course).  Todd’s division is super competitive, so we’ll just say he didn’t come in last and he’s newly motivated to get back into training.

It was also my first chance to wear the Team Poseidon racing jersey.  Even though mountain bike racing is an individual sport, its awesome to be part of a team.  I really think the jersey made me faster (or at least look faster).  Team member Elise, is making us proud, procuring the leader’s jersey in our division for two weeks running.
