The Magic of J M Barrie’s Peter Pan

by This is Carrie on September 30, 2010

Within 2 seconds of the beginning of the show, Pumpkin & Princess whispered, “Whoa, this is so cool”. How could they not? Performed in a huge, white, state-of-the-art tent, the show uses 360 degree projection to transport both the characters as well as the audience on a magical journey from London to Neverland.  Combine that […]

Gifts for a Bike Lover: Joy Ride Print

by This is Carrie on September 29, 2010

Along with the awesome bicycle tote, I recently received this sweet bicycle print from good friend, Kage.  Aptly named, “Joy Ride” it reminds me that while I love bombing down a good mountain, I also love cruising around the neighborhood on my old Schwinn.

Making Stuff: Scripture Case #2

by This is Carrie on September 27, 2010

Once Princess saw the scripture case I made for her BFF back in the spring, she hoped to receive her own set of scriptures with a homemade case as a baptism gift too. Using the same thrifted bedspread for the body of the bag with a piece of thrifted floral bedsheet for the lining, the […]

Refashion Camp Day 5: How to make a T-shirt Skirt

by This is Carrie on September 24, 2010

On the final day of camp, I taught what had to be the most loved project of the week – the Two-Tone T-shirt Skirt.  Loosely based on this tutorial, each girl made a 6-gore skirt (for a smaller person using bigger shirts, 6 is all you need, especially if you are working with a new […]

Refashion Camp Day 4: How to Make Comfy T-shirt Pants

by This is Carrie on September 23, 2010

On day four, I was excited to show the girls how to turn a T-shirt into cropped pants (or shorts).  With this project, they learned how to make a casing and insert elastic.  Those who finished early got to dig through my bag o’ fabric scraps & add some applique embellishment to their pants. Basic […]

Refashion Camp Day 3: How to Make a Fitted T-shirt

by This is Carrie on September 22, 2010

Using this tutorial, I showed the girls how to fit, cut & resew a large t-shirt into one that actually fits their body. I’ve had this thrifted Napolean Dynamite “Liger” shirt sitting in the garage for forever & was thrilled when Princess pulled it out for the project.  I think it was the tagline that […]

Refashion Camp Day 2: How to Make a T-shirt Bag

by This is Carrie on September 21, 2010

I’ve done this t-shirt bag project with lots of new/young sewers, and it’s always a hit.  Loosely based on this tutorial from Martha Stewart, the bag comes together easily and quickly, leaving plenty of time for some creative freezer paper stenciling. For added technique and vocabulary, I suggest a adding nice boxed corners & making […]

Refashion Camp Day 1: How to Make a T-shirt Necklace

by This is Carrie on September 20, 2010

After reviewing the parts of a sewing machine, doing some practice stitches on paper & fabric & organizing all the t-shirts for the week’s projects, we we created braided fabric necklaces using this tutorial from Melissa at ISLY.  It’s simple, fun and super satisfying. *Note: The “T-shirt Refashion camp” series will cover the projects I […]

Girls with Glasses – I Need Your Help

by This is Carrie on September 19, 2010

photo via flickr It became quickly apparent at last week’s eye exam that Pumpkin needed eyeglasses.  She remained composed as we started looking at frames in the office.  After trying on the fifth pair she “didn’t like”, she turned to the woman helping us and asked “Will I have to wear them to school too?”.  […]
