I Don’t Like Running

by This is Carrie on January 31, 2011

Even though I’ve been running for over 2 years, I still have to convince myself that I LIKE to run every time I lace up my shoes because I actually don’t LIKE to run until I’m finished.  But, there are a few things that help get me motivated (even excited!) to pound the pavement.

Run Like a Mother

Dailymile: This social network, for athletes, wannabes and basically anyone who wants to keep track of their workouts/training, somehow keeps me feeling accountable for my training.  It’s nice to get motivation from others who understand distance, pace, time, sweat and sore.  You can even meet people who are training for the very same races. If you join dailymile, let me know so we can be friends!

Pandora: While training for my marathons, I didn’t like to listen to anything because I felt training my brain was just as important as training my body. Well, these days, listening to “The Eye of the Tiger” Pandora station is sometimes what I need to get myself moving.

Yurbuds: Now that I listen to music more, Todd found me these great earbuds. Finally something that doesn’t fall out.

Run Like a Mother: Kelly gifted me this book almost a year ago.  It’s one of the few books I read in 2010 and I highly recommend it.  It was like talking to a good friend who understands all the challenges of being a running mother (literally).

Bondi Band: My “Run Like a Mother” headband keeps my hair out of my face and makes me feel tough at the same time.

Nuun Hydration: I’m always on the search for the perfect hydration concoction.  Now, being a nursing runner, hydration is even more important.  For someone who ends every run as a salty mess, but likes to choose her method of carb loading, Nuun has become my new favorite electrolyte replacement drink.

Chariot Trailer/jogger: With my trusty 2-seater Chariot and the infant sling accessory, I can always go out for a run. No excuses.

Nike Training Top: I liked this tank before I had The Baby, but now I LOVE it.  Perfectly controls and accentuates my new found (and short lasting) cleavage. But while I got it, it’s nice to flaunt it!

Sparkle Athletic Running Skirt:  It’s always more fun to run when you’ve got a ton of people cheering for you.  And who can’t resist cheering for a girl in a sparkly skirt? I don’ think I will ever run a race without it.

I really find it hard to believe you don’t like running…..I hate running, and I don’t run. 😉

Thanks Carrie – I thought of your earbuds as I fought with mine during my run today. Buying them now!

Thanks for the tips… I am always having to re-motivate myself to get out there and run especially in nasty weather! Can you download pandora to an ipod?

I’m just about to start running again, I tend to take the winter off! But this list is awesome. You are awesome!! Love those Bondi bands, I need some. And I want to read that book!

I’d take off the winters too if I lived in the cold and snow. I’m a fair weather runner. You’ll love the book. Stay tuned, next week I’m having a big running prize package giveaway that might include it!

I found you from MADE and loved stopping by. In fact, I’ve become a new follower. You feel the same way about running as I do…I hate to even call myself a runner even though I do indeed run. Wish we could run a little together. Maybe we could talk crafty talk until the whole thing was over! 🙂

eee! i first found you through the awesome tutorials you post and then somewhat abandoned the blogging world for a year. (oops) Then I was looking for the upcycled newborn nightgown tute that i bookmarked, found you all over again, and then caught myself reading and reading and…still reading your blog. I’m on DailyMile, too, and I’d love to follow your training! I was on a team for the Hood to Coast but i’ll be 27-weeks prego when the race starts so…maybe next year. I’d love to “friend you” on DM and have you give a shout-out to my all-women’s team if you see them at H2C (Atlanta Track Club).

I started on the art case tutorial and stumbled upon your snow white costume. I have really enjoyed traveling through your posts. I’m so jazzed you mentioned the running moms book. I read an article about them in Runner’s World a while back and still use one of their mantras every time I run. I just bought the book for my kindle. Thanks for a great read.
