Making Stuff: Acid Wash Overall Refashion

by This is Carrie on May 18, 2011

Here’s another one of my failed attempts to introduce 80’s fashion to my kids.  I was so disappointed, it’s taken me nine months to post about it.  Finding a pair of boys acid-wash overalls made me a little nostalgic.  I quickly turned them into a RAD girls skirtall.  I knew it wasn’t going to end well when my girls looked blankly at me asking, “What does rad mean, mom?”

She looks so happy in the photos, but that rad skirtall has been sitting in her drawer ever since.

I think it’s cute. If she still refuses to wear it, you could dye it a new color like purple. The color over the acid wash would look cool (I think) or you could remove the denim color (with bleach or dye remover) for a white skirt. Either way, I still think it’s cute. 🙂

She’ll probably start liking it five days after she outgrows it. At least that’s how it seems to work in my house.

Tell Char Char that I love her hair! It’s “rad”.

I think it’s adorable! When I was in middle school, my mom bought me this hot pink jean jacket at an outlet mall…nothing like all the cool girls were wearing 🙁 So, my mom being the awesome mom that she is spent hours with her hands in bleach making me the Coolest faded pink jean jacket Ever! Wore it for years 🙂

I think it’s totally awesome and reminded me of the jeans/skirts I wore in the 80s!

I think that this is, like, *totally* rad! I am going to garage sales right now to try and find some overalls for my daughter. Must. have. skirtall!

Try it again now that it’s fall, with a longsleve shirt under. I like the idea of dying it again, the white will pick up the dye more.

THanks for the idea. Now it is too small for her! I just passed on to a neighbor girl and she loves it! Yay!
