Making Stuff: Aromatherapy Heat Packs

by This is Carrie on May 25, 2011

We had a “relaxation” theme for this year’s Teacher & Staff Appreciation luncheon.  With the help of a few other mom sewers and stuffers, all 50 teachers and staff left the luncheon with their own lavender scented rice bag (made from part of my collection of thrifted floral sheets) to use as a heat pack or a cold pack.

What are the finished dimension? About how many cups of rice did you use and what ratio of lavender is there to the rice? Is it “real” lavender in the bag, or just misted with a lavender scent? Thanks!!

We made long skinny ones to wrap around the back of your neck. The finished dimensions were 4″ x 16″. We filled them a little shy of 3/4 of the way full with rice. We used some dry lavender from a friend’s yard for some and a few drops of lavender essential oil in the rest.

I really like lavender as a scent, I use a few drops in the water when I am blocking my knitting.
It ‘s definitely on my to grow list.

that’s a fantastic idea! Never thought of using it during the blocking process.

Love the idea of using lavender on knitting projects, I might have to try that soon! 🙂
