The Orange County Marathon & 1/2

by This is Carrie on May 26, 2011

Didn’t run this one, but we woke up early, staked out a spot on the route (with a gorgeous ocean view) and cheered on the racers which, as I’ve said before, is almost as awesome as being in the race.If it looks like runners wearing Team Sparkle skirts are having the most fun, that’s because they are.

And if you’re having a hard time picking a skirt color, you can always match your hair.

Jerry Knox was trying to set a world record for fastest marathon while dribbling two basketballs. He didn’t finish in his goal time at  this race because one of his basketballs popped and he had to wait 1/2 hour while a new one was brought to him.  But, only a few weeks later, he tried again at the Pasadena Marathon and finished in under 5 hours setting the world record. Wow.

We always stay until the last racers pass because whether you’re first or last, finishing a marathon is a huge accomplishment.
