The Kids’ First Triathlon

by This is Carrie on June 18, 2011

On Memorial Day, the kids all participated in their very first triathlon. After all the events they’ve come to and cheered me on, it was so fun being able to be the cheerleader for once.

The “pee-wee” tri was just a 25 yard swim (parental help & floaties okay), a 250 yard bike (training wheels, run bikes & trikes okay), and a 100 yard run, perfect for the under 5 crowd.

The kids triathlon was made up of a 25 Yard swim, a 3/4 mile bike and a 1/4 mile run.  It was the perfect challenge for Pumpkin.
While the kids triathlon distance was a little short of challenging for Princess, her non-competitive spirit allowed her to relish in the fact she was able to do the entire thing right beside her best friend in their matching “Tiny Team Sparkle” skirts (hopefully someday I’ll find a photo of her run since I was unable to keep track of all three of them through all three of their race legs).

Based on all the smiles once the race was over, it looks like we might have a new Memorial Day tradition.

This was so awesome!! My little boy ran his first race on the same day I did my 10k. I was more excited about his race than mine. You must be insanely proud.

Looks like they all did great and had a lot of fun. Although I was surprised to not see a Team Sparkle skirt on Wes…
