Making Stuff: A “Maria” Dirndl

by This is Carrie on June 27, 2011

When Princess picked “My Favorite Things” as the song she wanted to sing for the school talent show this year, I knew a dirndl was in order.  Using a tablecloth I thrifted ages ago and a couple matching pieces of fabric from “the stash”, I had everything I needed.  I even found an unopened, European Burda pattern for the exact style I wanted in my stack of thrifted patterns (good thing I somehow deduced there weren’t any seam allowances included on that pattern).  The only thing I was missing was a matching zipper…which I didn’t figure out until too late…so it got a bright red one…straight up the back.

She didn’t seem to mind.

And the talent show? As her unbiased mother, I think it went wonderfully.

Well, Lucy, this was better than nothing since I couldn’t get you to sing for me in person. SOMEDAY maybe?

Let’s have a talent show at Lopez. I know you’ll sing for a crowd.
