Refashion Camp Day 1: How to Make a T-shirt Necklace

by This is Carrie on September 20, 2010

After reviewing the parts of a sewing machine, doing some practice stitches on paper & fabric & organizing all the t-shirts for the week’s projects, we we created braided fabric necklaces using this tutorial from Melissa at ISLY.  It’s simple, fun and super satisfying.

*Note: The “T-shirt Refashion camp” series will cover the projects I did with a cute group of 8-11 year old girls this past summer, but the projects are great for begging sewers/refashioners of any age.

I’m really looking forward to this series. I found your site through a twitter-friend who linked to your wonderful post for your daughter & her new glasses. I remember how awesome it was to realize that you could see the leaves on trees even when you weren’t right there.

I’ve been hoping to hold a few tutorials on repurposing for my daughter (age 16) and her friends (both boys and girls). The skateboard/snowboard clique is open to hand-made/home-made/upcycled accessories. If 8-year olds can do it, so can they. *g*

Love what you did! I want to make more of those jersey necklaces, they’re surprisingly warm & perfect for fall & early spring.
