Hood to Coast 2011: The Team

by This is Carrie on September 18, 2011

Wow.  What can I say about the AfterNuun Delight team.  10 women bloggers. 2 Nuun staffers. All amazingly fun and athletically talented.  I was so nervous about about being the one that slowed down the team, but every single person just wanted everyone else to run their very best—whatever that was.

Even though you’re on a team of 12, you’re split up into two vans…that almost NEVER see each other.  Which is why I’m going to gush the most about the 5 other girls in my van: Van #2.

Mel of Tall Mom on the Run: Not only did this girl run smokin’ fast, this girl took care of us. Even though 4 of us in the van had kids, she was the one that mothered us all in the kind of way where you feel like a million bucks after talking to her for ten seconds and she always made sure you had a big bottle of Nuun waiting for you after your run.  And yes, she’s very tall.

Megan of Watch MeGo Run: This girl is tough as nails.  Through sickness (which I’m pretty sure I gave to her) and pain, she rain her legs with pure determination. This year she’s running 1000+ miles.  She also has great taste in running shoes (we ran in matching New Balance Minimus shoes)

Melody from Will Run For Margaritas:  You can’t let this girl’s pink sparkle running skirt and gorgeous smile fool you.  She picked off 73 people during her three legs. 73 Road Kills. It was truly amazing to witness.  We will always have a connection through our mutual love of Spree candy and her abs will always be my inspiration during mid section Mondays at boot camp.

Jen from Nuun: While quiet and unassuming at first, we soon found out that Jen isn’t just a Nuun employee, she is an elite adventure racer.  Because of that, there was no one better to keep it cool when things got rough and people got tired.  If she had a blog, I’d read it every day.

Kelly from According to Kelly: I was so lucky to be able to have one of my closest friends with me on the team and in my van. I’m glad Nuun got the message from our joint application that we’re pretty much inseparable. Kelly had THE HARDEST leg of the entire race and in true Kelly style, she conquered that never-ending hill in the heat of the day with a smile on her face.

If you are looking for some “get moving”/running inspiration, check out all the blogs listed above and also the ones of my teammates in Van #2:

Kimberly – Nuun employee and great organizer of the Nuun Hood to Coast teams.

Lauren – Health on the Run

Alanna from Running 42Km

Dorothy from Mile Posts (just little note about Dorothy, who I got to spend more time with pre-race: this girl ROCKS! She is my new mother runner HERO. Sje can push a TRIPLE jogger while running a 6:05 mile. Crazy awesome!)

Emily – Sweat Once a Day

Jocelyn from Enthusiastic Runner

I love this post. I’m so glad you and Kelly decided to make the trek back *down the hill* with us – I really wished that we could have spent more time together but I’m glad that we atleast hung out before. You are a rockstar. Seriously there are so many things about you I love. I hope our life paths cross again soon 🙂 🙂 🙂

I have done this race twice, 2 years ago I did the Portland to Coast Walk 8.5 months pregnant. It was so much fun and I am hoping to find a team for next year. You can check out some of my pics from a couple of the years I have done it here: http://www.acraftyb.com/2010/09/portland-to-coast-walk-relay.html hope to see you next year!
