Together Really Counts

by This is Carrie on March 20, 2012

I feel honored to have been able to guest post at the Together Counts blog over the past few months.  If you missed my posts, you can check out the links below. Unlike my style on this blog, I actually wrote more than a couple sentences about each topic and I’m pretty proud of the words I wrote. 😉 If you still haven’t heard about Together Counts, it is a nationwide program to inspire active and healthy living for families.  Through the Together Counts website, families can make a pledge to spend more time eating healthy and being active together and also track their progress.

If you’ve read This Mama Makes Stuff for any length of time, you already know how much we love being active together as a family.  With Todd’s work hours, eating together as a family is not something that happens everyday, but I grew up in a family where it did happen. And it was awesome.  With my pledge, I am trying to create more quality mealtimes together since the quantity is not something I can really control.

Beyond pledges, healthy eating and active bodies, the word “together” is really the key.  Watching our friends deal with the loss of their youngest son over the past two weeks, it has become more clear than ever that family togetherness is what really counts.  Every story that was told as they buried their sweet baby boy was of those moments they spent together as family.  The lesson I have taken away amidst all the grief I have felt over a little one that was seemingly taken away from his family too soon, was this: You will never regret spending more time with your family.  Ever.

Disclosure: I was compensated by Together Counts for my posts. While my opinions are my own and cannot be bought, I wholeheartedly agree with the mission of Together Counts and am so happy they asked me to be a contributor on their blog.
