Making Stuff: The “Go To” Dress {Pattern Blog Tour}

by This is Carrie on July 16, 2012

When Andrea from The Train to Crazy asked if I’d join the blog tour to introduce the first pattern from her new pattern company, Go To Patterns, I was more than happy to help.  Once I saw the photo of the maxi dress version of her Go To Signature Dress, I knew Princess would love it.  On top of that, Andrea is a fellow Orange County-blogger-sewist so we gotta be there for each other.

I’ve had this piece of knit sitting in my stash for a while. The crazy stripes called to me from the $1 a yard bin at my favorite hole-in-the-wall fabric store here in the OC.

With 3 lengths, 7 sleeves, 4 pockets and a hood option, the Go To Signature Dress pattern includes so many style variations, I was a little overwhelmed.  I decided to just go with the same style Andrea made up as one of her samples dresses: maxi dress with flutter sleeves and inset pockets. It’s simple style was perfect to let the print of the fabric shine.  There were two changes I made: instead of hemming the flutter sleeves, I decided to line them with the dress fabric to finish off the curved edge quickly and easily.  Also, after measuring the length, I decided to add about 4 inches.

Bravo to Andrea and Go To Patterns for producing a dress pattern perfect for 12 month old babies all the way up to 10 year old girls (and just in time for “back to school” sewing).  The instructions are detailed enough for someone who hasn’t had much experience sewing knits and it loaded with great little tips and tricks to sharpen your sewing skills.  It’s definitely a pattern worth going back to again and again.

Find the pattern HERE.

While this is the first and only pattern on the site, Andrea’s got big plans for Go To Patterns. Keep up with the latest news on Facebook.

That is the neatest fabric I’ve seen in a while! How on earth did that end up in the clearance bin?! Well done on pattern placement too!

What a great dress! The pattern really does make the fabric shine, and your daughter looks so elegant (but still looks like she could play easily). Love it!!

This is my all-time favorite … at least for now. I think it is the model that does this dress so awesome.

I expected to click on this dress via Pinterest and see a price tag of $100!! This truly looks like haute couture. Wanting an adult version asap!

Hey, really cute. Thanks. So I just need a little remedial clarification here — so you did the sleeve just with a self facing, so it’s double thick? And that wasn’t *too* thick? First outing with knits (except for the t-shirt baby gowns of course!), and we’re (Abby and I) making a swim coverup for Abby.

When some one searches for his vital thing, so he/she needs to be
available that in detail, so that thing is maintained over here.
