So Cal Ragnar Relay 2012: The End

Just when we thought we were completely spent of energy, we got a text from our final runner, Elise, out on the course on her final leg.  All it said was “I’m coming in hot!”  Or in other words, “I’m running super fast so you better be ready and waiting for me when I come down the finish chute.”  That message got us all riled up again and ready to finish our first So Cal Ragnar Relay with a bang.

Final Results:

The 200+ miles of race course turned into 200++ miles of race course when we had a runner get lost on leg 33 (along with 20 other runners). Kelly has always been an overachiever, but she definitely did not appreciate adding 4 extra miles & 30 extra minutes to her already long, 11 mile run (she finished with a total of 44+ miles!).

We amassed 455 total “road kills” (meaning we passed 455 teams along the way).

Total Time: 29 hours, 30 minutes & 45 seconds

Pace: 8:33 min/mile

Team Sparkle placed 2nd in the women’s ultra division (missing 1st place by only 16 minutes) and 49th overall, out of 526 teams.

Out of all the women’s teams (ultra and regular teams) we came in 3rd.  Out of all 24 ULTRA teams (including mens, womens & mixed ULTRA teams) we were 6th to cross the finish line.

Needless to say, we were ECSTATIC about our race results.  For a rag tag group of water gun toting, Taco Bell eating, sparkly skirt wearing runners with 16 kids between the 6 of us, I think we did Team Sparkle proud.

The icing on the cake was the “Homecoming Award” which meant everyone running Ragnar So Cal voted us the overall favorite team!  You gotta hate getting passed by a girl in a sparkly skirt, but you also gotta love it.
