Making Stuff: Rapunzel Costume {women’s dress refashion}

by This is Carrie on October 24, 2011

Did you catch a glimpse of the lavender dress I found in my Savers Halloween video? Well, that wasn’t the dress I ended up using for Pumpkin’s Rapunzel dress.  Of course, after the cameras were turned off, I found an even more perfect dress to refashion. With it’s chiffon overlay, I knew this old, thrifted […]

Another dress from the thrift store with so much promise. STEPS 1 . Shorten skirt about 4″ (I took it off at the skirt waist instead of the hem). 2. Replace “dead” elastic at waist with new elastic. 3. Cut off sleeves and re-hem. 4. Pair with belt. Find more of my women’s refashions HERE.

Making Stuff: Princess Dresses {Thrifted Dress Refashion}

by This is Carrie on September 19, 2011

Nothing makes better “dress up” dresses than thrifted prom dresses from the 70’s and 80’s. They are more durable, more interesting, more afordable and they’ll fit kids that are bigger than size 3T. Why do big manufacturers assume kids stop dressing up after toddlerhood anyway? Steps: Yellow dress: Shortened straps, cut off third ruffle to […]

She struggles though, to […]

A Sewing Play Date

by This is Carrie on September 7, 2011

Princess requested an “End of the Summer Sewing Playdate” with a few of her closest girlfriends.  How could I refuse? Each of the four girls (3 who had never touched a sewing machine or an iron and ironing board before) spent an afternoon picking out the fabric (great way to use up my vintage sheet […]

Making Stuff: Shorten that Skirt {refashion}

by This is Carrie on September 1, 2011

At the thrift store I tend to gravitate towards old, handmade-looking pieces.  The eyelet panel and lace details on this skirt called to me but it’s awkward length did not flatter. With all the hem details, shortening from the bottom was not an option.  Shortening at the waist ended up being a super simple process […]

Making Stuff: An Entire Baby Wardrobe

by This is Carrie on August 15, 2011

In the summer, I like to dress my babies in onesies.  Just onesies. And maybe a pair of pants if we’re outside at night and it starts getting a little cool.  So last week I beefed up The Baby’s wardrobe with the things he wears the most. Plain white onesies & a couple hand-me downs […]
