by This is Carrie on February 15, 2010

www.team-sparkle.com
Last year I ran the Surf City 5K.  It was my second running race ever.  If you would have told me that in one year’s time I would be back in Surf City running the marathon, I would have told you you were crazy. Turns out I am the crazy one.
There were five of us [...]

Marathon Preparation: My Necessities

by This is Carrie on February 4, 2010

A few weeks ago, I invited a new girlfriend on our 20 mile training run.  I knew Alma had run the last LA marathon and is currently training for the next LA marathon, but had no idea what kind of “runner” she was. I showed up with all my “necessities’ and she, a mom working [...]

by This is Carrie on January 18, 2010

When I bought my very first pair of real running shoes one year ago, I never imagined I’d end up here–three weeks away from running my first marathon, nursing sore knees from a 20 mile training run, and not so much worried about if I can finish, but worried about my strategy for finishing in [...]

With my new partner this year, we bested last year’s time by twelve minutes, coming in 14th out of 54 in our age division.
But, the mud wrestling wasn’t nearly as impressive [...]

My First Athletic Trophy…ever

by This is Carrie on October 13, 2009

They said it was the “flattest, fastest, and ‘funnest’ 5K race in the world”, and they weren’t kidding. The trophy came my way because no female “real” runners between the ages of 30-34 happened to show up to the race. But I hold it up with pride knowing I ran my personal best:24:46 with a [...]
