Making Stuff: Doll Diapers

by This is Carrie on August 30, 2010

Against my better judgment, I let the girls purchase Baby Alive dolls with their birthday money.  In about 2.5 seconds, they had both soaked the one disposable diaper included with each doll and were begging for more diapers for their naked doll tushies. 2.5 seconds after that, I found this tutorial for baby doll cloth [...]

Making Stuff: Bow Shirt from Men’s Dress Shirt Refashion

by This is Carrie on August 16, 2010

When Todd threw his old brown and pink, long-sleeved dress shirt in the “to be donated” pile I promptly pulled it out knowing it’s life was not over yet. The style, a simple sleeveless tunic with bow, was inspired from a japanese made shirt I found a while back for Princess. I used the existing [...]

Making Stuff: Girls Skirt from Women’s Skirt Refashion

by This is Carrie on August 11, 2010

Some refashions are complex. Some are embarassingly simple. This thrifted women’s mini-skirt only needed to be taken in on each side but with it’s patchworked design and pre-smocked waist, it looks like I might have spent a lot of time on it. I’m tricky like that.

Making Stuff: Miss Rodeo America Dress

by This is Carrie on July 26, 2010

When I first spotted the eyelet trimmed, red gingham skirt at my favorite vintage thrift store, I loved it.  When I saw this label inside, I loved it even more. So did Princess. Rather than altering the “too big” waist down to fit her, we realized pairing it with a favorite old embroidered shirt (which [...]

Making Stuff: Shape Stretchies for Creative Movement

by This is Carrie on July 8, 2010

Shape Stretchies were some of my favorite things to play with at my sister’s house growing up.  She was a modern dance teacher and always fun ideas to promote creative movement for kids.  She introduced my kids to the “stretchies” recently and they also fell in love. That’s when I realized what a fun gift [...]

Making Stuff: Ruffled T-shirt Scarf

by This is Carrie on July 7, 2010

Soon, I’ll be teaching this t-shirt refashion at a church “Chistmas in July Craft Extravaganza”.  Thanks to wonderful ruffle scarf inspiration all over the web, the always amazing ruffle tension trick (high tension, long stitch) and this rosette tutorial by Plumtickled, there was no need to reinvent the wheel.

Making Stuff: An Embellished Tank for the Fourth

by This is Carrie on July 4, 2010

I had planned on making a second dress with the second thrifted pillowcase, but time and Big Sister’s taste got the best of me and instead I made a ruffle-embellished tank adorned with the leftover, zig-zag crochet trim (trim pattern from Crochet Adorned).

Making Stuff: A Dress for the Fourth

by This is Carrie on July 4, 2010

When I spotted a set of red, white, & blue Ikea Pillowcases at the thrift store for .50, I knew there were homemade Fourth of July outfits in my future. Using crochet trim (pattern from Crochet Adorned), pleat details and side seam gathering this dress breaks the mold of a traditional “pillowcase dress” P.S. So [...]

Making Stuff: Disco Day Bellbottoms Refashion

by This is Carrie on June 21, 2010

The last “Spirit Day” of the school year was named “Disco Day” and it had Princess concerned because during all her years at the elementary school, they had never had this dress-up theme before.  Paired with a few items from the dress-up box and her closet, these quickly refashioned bell bottoms made her day.  Can [...]

Gifts for the Sewing Enthusiast: Fat Quarters

by This is Carrie on June 3, 2010

But not just any fat quarters, I decided to share a piece of each of my ten favorite, vintage floral sheets. Sometimes it’s hard to share, but knowing they are going to a wonderfully crafty home, makes it easy. More gift ideas for the sewing enthusiast
