Making Stuff: Magnetic Bookmarks

by This is Carrie on January 3, 2011

A while back, Princess spotted the idea for magnetic ribbon bookmarks at a local craft fair. In true DIY crafter fashion she proclaimed, “I could make that!”  They turned out to be the perfect little Christmas gift for her school friends.

Using ribbon scraps and a roll of sticky back magnet strip, Pumpkin even made a few of her own to give to both of her Grandmas because “I know they like to read books.”

That is clever! I bet the book club ladies would love that as a little gift too!

These are great! I saw some with wide ribbon doubled & sewn together with cardboard inside and a button so it wouldn’t slide into book but I like this much better!

That gnome ribbon was actually a set of wide shoelaces I picked up at the thrift store. Isn’t it awesome? I wish I could find more!

This is perfect timing! My mother in law is visiting Guyana this week to celebrate a new translation of the bible there. She wanted to take some bookmarks with her. I will be cranking those things out as fast as I can for the next few days. Thank you for yet another fantastic idea!

What a fun little craft. I’m thinking of Activity Days. Did Princess finish the edges of the ribbon? Fray Check? Singeing, maybe?

On some of the ribbon, we just folded it under and let the stickiness of the magnet hold it in place. On some I helped singe the edge.
