During a visit to my local sewing machine shop I happened the new ThreadBanger sewing machine by Janome. It is everything I look for in a beginner sewing machine–heavy duty, no computers, simple stitches. And while I usually am not one to like obvious “branding” of products, I am pretty much in love with ThreadBanger, so I think their logo makes this machine look wicked cool.
So while my first love (my beautiful Bernina) is in the shop for a tune-up, I must admit, I will be dreaming about this little cutie.

ooooh…so wicked! Do you think this would be a better option than the Singer? (I must admit, I’ve fallen for the Singer you recommended).
Hey, which Bernina do you have?
Now the Singer I have sewed on and I know it lasts and is tough. I still really like it and the vintage look of it. This new one I’ve only seen and lifted (it’s nice and heavy). Janome is a well respected brand and actually makes sewing machine for a lot of other companies, so I am sure it will sew really nice. I’d try to find each one and give ’em each a try. You might like the feel of one better than the other.
Dana – I have the Bernina Activa 240. I fell in love with Bernina’s in college because that is what all the sewing labs had. And I haven’t been disapointed in it since I bought it over 5 years ago.
I think it is so great that you younguns are being lured to sewing! (Not you, because you were already there, but the rest of ’em.)
P.S. Santa is coming soon. Maybe you should start your list.
I’ve never heard of ThreadBanger, and now I’m wondering why I didn’t think of something so totally cool! I love it!
(I love my Bernina too- almost as much as I love my Pfaff! I use them very differently, though…)
hi! stumbled upon your blog, by way of another…. thank you for posting about this sewing machine!!
i’ve been really wanting to learn to sew and my young daughter has just shown a passion for making clothes for her barbies… so this would be peeeerfect for me.
do you have a machine you would recommend for a 5-yr-old, by chance?
For my 6 year old daughter’s birthday I got her the 3/4 size hello kitty janome sewing machine. It’s been fine so far–especially for the cost.
