Making Stuff: Buffalo Check Baby Blanket

My favorite thing about Kathi D is that she knew full well I’d love the piece of fabric she wrapped The Baby’s gift in just as much as the gift itself (maybe even more). The large piece of organic cotton buffalo check fabric was so lovely and soft, I immediately knew it must be made into a blanket.

Using a simple, rounded-corder, square design with a wrapped binding, I spent more time going to the fabric store to pick up the cuddly, “minky rose swirl” backing fabric than making the actual blanket.

You just put a bunch of tiny little tucks on the inside corner. With the plush fabric, the tucks aren’t even noticeable.

I didn’t use any batting, but after I finished it, I wondered if I should have. Now I like the thinness and floppiness of it. But a thin layer of cotton batting would be lovely as well.
