Making Stuff: Cheater Crochet Ornaments

by This is Carrie on December 20, 2010

Ever since I discovered Savers awesome DIY tutorials back in October (the Barbie Zombie Garden was such a cool idea), I couldn’t wait to see what they’d come up with for the Holidays.

I immediately fell in love with their upcycled snowflake ornament idea and headed to my local Savers to find the needed supplies.

I found this perfect crochet motif placemat(?) and then pulled out some more pieces from my stash of thrifted crochet projects.

These “cheater” crocheted snowflakes have all the homemade charm of the real deal, with a fraction of the work (or talent!).  I also can’t help but think how cool it would be to break up Grandma’s crocheted tablecloth into a bunch of ornaments so everyone in the family could enjoy a piece of it.  That is, if you had a grandma who crocheted a tablecloth and a mom who’d let you cut it up.

Check out the tutorial HERE.

Awesome! I love this idea and of course you’d have these laying around. I checked out their website for other ideas as well. I’ve never even heard of Savers. Thanks for the inside scoop.

Savers is the best! I always find great linens and doilies there. There is one in Anaheim. You must check it out.

This is such a great idea and very fast to whip up. I bet you could make a really darling garland using this idea too! Thanks very much for the idea~
