Mountain Biking Chicks

by This is Carrie on May 28, 2011

This past weekend was full of “girl power” mountain biking.  On the first ride with my best, mountain biking girlfriends, I worked up enough courage to go down a hill I’d never attempted before…twice (because making it down alive the first time felt like a total fluke).

I swear it’s steeper and sketchier in real life.  And boy did it feel like I was going faster too 🙂 (here’s some guys doing it from another angle).

Then I took the girls out on a ride to help them prepare for the “Over the Hump” our local, summer, mountain bike race series.  Princess conquered some pretty steep, and rutted hills and Pumpkin did an amazing job considering she’s had little experience on a bike with hand brakes and gears.

At the end of our ride, I snapped a shot that I know will be come one of my favorite “mother/daughter” photos of all time and it’s featured on the “I Am..” blog today!  Check it out HERE.

Hey,
I just wanted to say- from one mountain biking chick to another- Awesome stuff! Good on ya for doin the chute!! My mantra is- “You can ride down more than you can walk”… Its true, Ive tried.
Aaaaand- awesome that your kiddlies are into it too, and that youve made the effort to take them. Youre an inspiration (esp given that Ive barely ridden my bike since Lox was born 2 years ago!!!!- very embarrassing).
Love your blog.

Awesome ride on the chute. It scares me just to watch you do it. And congratulations to the girls for their accomplishments on those bikes. I’m amazed that Princess made it up that hill. And Pumpkin, you’re getting really good for your first time with hand brakes and gears. How did you girls do last Tuesday? I was nearly there to see you. Maybe next time.

I love reading your blog! I have been trying to decide if I want a mountain bike or a road bike and your blog always makes me lean toward mountain bike, you make it look so fun. Love the picture of you and your girls.
