Vintage Fabric Swap

by This is Carrie on September 21, 2011

Twitter and Instagram are where I’ve met and chatted with a number of likeminded, vintage fabric/sheet hoarders….I mean collectors.  Mandie from moxiemandie is one of those hoarders…I mean collectors.  We arranged an impromptu vintage fabric/sheet swap a while back when we were just new online friends, but now we’re like fabric BFF’s.

Hood to Coast 2011: The People

by This is Carrie on September 20, 2011

Hood to Coast is a race that’s also a big party.  A party filled with all sorts of interesting people. Here are a few of my favorite teams we met along the way: The Road Kilts. We had a skirt bond that couldn’t be created with just any all-male team. I am happy to say […]

Making Stuff: Princess Dresses {Thrifted Dress Refashion}

by This is Carrie on September 19, 2011

Nothing makes better “dress up” dresses than thrifted prom dresses from the 70’s and 80’s. They are more durable, more interesting, more afordable and they’ll fit kids that are bigger than size 3T. Why do big manufacturers assume kids stop dressing up after toddlerhood anyway? Steps: Yellow dress: Shortened straps, cut off third ruffle to […]

Hood to Coast 2011: The Team

by This is Carrie on September 18, 2011

Wow.  What can I say about the AfterNuun Delight team.  10 women bloggers. 2 Nuun staffers. All amazingly fun and athletically talented.  I was so nervous about about being the one that slowed down the team, but every single person just wanted everyone else to run their very best—whatever that was. Even though you’re on […]

This Week on Twitter 2011-09-18

by This is Carrie on September 18, 2011

Today I will remember, but tomorrow I will go back to wishing I could forget. http://t.co/BR99EMR #sept11 # It's funny how your brain will keep trying to make sense of something that you know will never make sense. # I will never be able to listen to "pumped up kicks" without thinking of @run4margaritas, #nuun […]

Meet Jane: Sewing Her Way Out of Poverty

by This is Carrie on September 15, 2011

Today I gathered together some thrifted fancy dresses and some fancy fabrics that have been sitting in my stash for years & shipped them off to Jane, an amazing Kenyan woman who has literally sewn her way out of poverty.  Not only is she a sister sewist, she is a refashioner! She struggles though, to […]

Today, I’m over at Skip to My Lou sharing one of my “oldies but goodies”: Shape Stretchies! They make a great gift for the littles in your life and they are SUPER easy.  If you haven’t been following the Holiday Bake, Sew & Craft Along, you’re totally missing out. Great ideas and lots of motivation […]

A Tough Weekend

by This is Carrie on September 10, 2011

“Strength” The days leading up to 9/11 are tough for me.  Every year I think/hope it’ll get easier but it doesn’t seem to.  This year has been even tougher. Not just because it’s the 10th anniversary of the event that rocked my life and all of the world, but this year, on 9/8, my sweet […]

A Sewing Play Date

by This is Carrie on September 7, 2011

Princess requested an “End of the Summer Sewing Playdate” with a few of her closest girlfriends.  How could I refuse? Each of the four girls (3 who had never touched a sewing machine or an iron and ironing board before) spent an afternoon picking out the fabric (great way to use up my vintage sheet […]

Having run a relay before, I knew how important flashy running attire is to the overall race experience.  That’s why I was thrilled when our team, AfterNuun Delight, agreed to wear Sparkle Athletic running skirts. They are definitely the best thing for a team to wear for a relay race. Not only are they fun, […]
