Thanksgiving 10K: Plymouth Rock ‘n’ Run

by This is Carrie on November 27, 2011

A Thanksgiving race seems like excuse enough for a fun running costume, so I made the girls and I matching, sparkly Indian headresses to go with our Sparkle Athletic running skirts and we headed to the Plymouth Rock ‘n’ Run.

I have a soft spot in my heart for 10K’s since my very first race EVER was the Dana Point Turkey Trot 10K in 2008.

This 10K treated me well with a new PR of 47:41 (7:42 pace) which placed me third in my age division!

Brother talked about running the “Kids K” for weeks ahead of time.  He was absolutely positive he was going to win the race, especially once I bought him running shoes and made him a sparkle cape.  We were worried there might be tears once he realized he wasn’t actually going to win, but at the end of the race, he was just super proud of himself.

Such an awesome way to spend Thanksgiving morning. I started our own family 5k Turkey Trot this year with participants from 2 weeks to 60+ years old. Way to go on your PR. You are a one zippy mama!

I ran my first-ever 5 miler at our local Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, the longest race I’ve run in years. I was happy to see Team Sparkle represented by two runners (that I saw anyway, there were 8000 participants so I could easily have missed some!). You would’ve zoomed past my 11:00 pace, but I met my goal or running the whole thing which made my day!
