Making Stuff: Crocheted Baby Cap with Brim

by This is Carrie on October 9, 2008

I have been trying to craft for cooler weather but with temperatures still in the 90’s it’s been really hard. I did manage to crochet a little beanie cap with brim for baby brother. I’ve seen the style floating around for a while and was able to mix a little freestyle double crochet cap and the brim from this pattern for a hat I am happy with–at least for a first try.

Fantastic! I just started thinking that I want to learn to crochet a baby cap or two… I’m looking for the bucket hat (I think that’s the name). Can you recommend any good tutorials for crocheting? I’ve never done it before.

It totally rocks. I saw it in person (and watched the whole process) and it looks fantastic!

pink dogwood,

If at all possible, I would try to find a real live person who can teach you. Online tutorials can be maddening when you are first starting out. If you can’t, the Lion Brand Yarn website has good beginner instructions. For free patterns, I love Crochet Pattern Central.

I like it – there’s not much cool crafting stuff for little boys. This one inspires me. If I had a free hand I might try it …. or do I need two hands for it…..

By my estimation, it took about 5 minutes to crochet that cap…..

regretfully, I made it up as I went along and didn’t write down any of the steps. Wish I had so I could recreate it!
