On our family vacation a while back, our friends brought this cool fabric-high-chair-alternative-contraption for their son. It was clearly a well loved, handmade relic from the late 70’s, made from faded Sesame Street fabric (sans Elmo). After both 14 mo old babies used it the entire trip, I quickly took some measurements before sending it home with our friends.
In the Bag: My own interpretation of the cool-fabric-high-chair-traveling-alternative made from a thrifted floral ottoman cover from the 70’s (staying true to the original).

Why oh why are you so damn amazing! I love/hate you and your talent. 🙂
This is soooo cool. I can't wait to use it!
wow…that is perfect for trips and outings!
That's brilliant! Can you share the measurements with us? 🙂
Oh please share how you did this, I have been wanting to make something like this but have not found any good instructions. My version has been to use a large receiving blanket to tie my little man to the chair. It works ok but yours looks so much better.
PLeas PLease post the measurments for this I love it.
Very cool idea. Would love to learn how to make one.
I hope you post how you did this, I really need one of these!
Brilliant… You might have to show us how you made it though… hehe

E-mail me at carrie(at)thisismejournl(dot)com so we can chat.
Do post a tutorial! It looks awesome!!
I second everyone else – tutorial please!
We had a similiar one for my little brother, but the front was a triangle shape…like the front of a diaper but it came around to tie behind the back. This would be great to make with PUL, shiny side out for the inside that folds over. For my kids, I just used my ring sling, straped around the chair, LOL.
This is one of your best yet. Tutorial PLEASE. Please!!!!!
Carrie,
I read your blog for inspiration and I'm truly in awe of your work. I was wondering if you are willing to send me a tutorial of the travel fabric seat. I mean, that's amazing!!
I hope to hear from you soon– Thanks

Just another request for a pattern/tutorial..pleeease? I love this!
Better (for me) than a tutorial, I would BUY one of these if you wanted to sell me one. Or on Esty, if you're still selling there.
Hi, just wanted to add my voice to those asking for the pattern and tutorial. 🙂
Love this! Share the measurements!
We desperately need a tutorial. Please Please Please.

Hi there. I tried linking to your tutorial for the fabric high chair, and it didn’t seem to work? Could you help me with this please? I’d love to make these.
Thanks.

Hey Rebecca, thanks for letting me know about the broken link. I think I got it all fixed up. Here it is just for you: Fabric Travel High Chair Tutorial
Wow, this is really neat. Sure beats what my mom did when we went to visit… she tied him to the dining room chairs with a sheet!
Hi! I’m checkin’ this out and wondering if there are written out instructions on how to make this, or is it only the tutorial? I love this idea for a baby shower gift or maybe for my nephew.
How does it wash up – or can you use those plastic tablecloths (altho I’d think those would tear from sewing).
What do you think?

The only tutorial I have up now is the one linked to on Whrrl. It washes up perfectly. I think the same as you – the tablecloths would most likely tear when sewn – not very durable.
Oh my gosh! I wish I had this when my kids were little! Your work is so nice!
Just wanting this tutorial but whrrl has shut down! Are you able to repost somewhere else?
thanks!
