It all started when Todd said he thought the cheap popcorn in a bag was not nearly as good as the more expensive Orville Redenbacher popcorn in a bottle. I picked up a couple more fancy bottles of popcorn from Target, invited over the neighbor kids and held a blind taste test of popcorns and popcorn toppings.
We assessed the flavor as well as the color, texture and popping structure. The cheap popcorn in the bag got no votes. The Orville Redenbacher popcorn won with three votes out of six (I guess I have to admit Todd was right). And I thought the “cinnamon toast” or “kettle corn” topping would win for sure but “sea salt and vinegar” was the crowd favorite with parmesan cheese coming in second.
Now we’re brainstorming more fun, summer taste tests. Donuts anyone?

We are popcorn lovers here–that looks like a GREAT activity! I love kettlecorn, and learned to make it myself, as well as home made caramel popcorn. I tried the cinnamon/sugar store bought kettlecorn but was disappointed.
It’s amazing how different the different brands can taste!
I have to disagree with Todd on this one. I love popcorn from a bag, but it MUST be cooked on the stove, not in an air popper. I think it gives the popcorn a saltier, buttery taste without becoming soggy. I can’t wait for the doughnuts! Maple glazed is the best!
