When Todd threw his old brown and pink, long-sleeved dress shirt in the “to be donated” pile I promptly pulled it out knowing it’s life was not over yet.
The style, a simple sleeveless tunic with bow, was inspired from a japanese made shirt I found a while back for Princess. I used the existing hem and button front of the shirt. From the sleeves, I cut the self bias binding and the HUGE bow. I think there may be a few more of these little shirts in my future.

I’m planning to do some “rough sketch” instructions in the near future. Hopefully that’ll be enough to get you going :). So glad you love it.

Thanks for passing on the link to 365 dresses in 365 days. What a cool blog and I love what she is doing with all those ugly dresses. It’s not often I find a new blog that I immediately fall in love with, but you’ve got me on this one.
I’m in the process of making one of these darling little shirts (only in a slightly larger mommy version!) I’m just wondering how you put the bow on there? mine is too thick to just sew on… thanks for any help!

I tied the bow, then hand tacked it un the middle to the shirt. I tacked one loop permanently to hold it up and the other loop has a small snap to hold it up as well – so you can still unbutton the shirt.

Thanks so much! I ended up sewing a small knot at the tip of each side and then on both sides of the knot. You’re killing me………all of this wonderful sewing creativity, marathon runner, mother to 4 kids, great figure…..I love viewing all of your projects, especially the wardrobe refashioning thrift items into wonderful ready-to-wear. But at times I feel like such a slacker not doing more since my kids are almost gone (17 and 20), and just working full-time and studying for the CPA exam. What’s my excuse for not accomplishing 1/2 as much as you do? (Love your website….though I don’t know how you do it all?! Must be that SoCal sunshine or something….!) Lisa

Thanks for the sweet comment Lisa. You are doing so much! Working full time and getting ready for the CPA exam! Everyone has different priorities, and right now i am lucky enough to be at a stage where all I have to do is sacrifice a clean house to be able to work in a few creative hours during a full week.
I like this , for me, in black, feel inpired with bows.
