Defending Her “Fastest Girl” Title

by This is Carrie on July 14, 2010

At the second kid’s race in the Over the Hump Mountain Bike Series, there were three girls racing instead of just one. It was the first time I actually saw Princess get a little competitive. In the past, she’s the girl who finishes the (running) race holding hands with a new-found friend, or packs her […]

A Girl’s First Mountain Bike Race

by This is Carrie on June 25, 2010

With her new jersey, and custom “stealth” Team Sparkle skirt, Princess was ready to take on the inaugural Over the Hump Kid’s Mountain Bike Race. Lining up at the start line, we quickly realized she was the only girl signed up to race. Her proudest moment was powering to the top of a long(ish) gradual […]

Making Stuff: Homemade Bike Jersey

by This is Carrie on June 23, 2010

When we heard the Over the Hump mountain bike race series added a kid’s race, Princess definitely wanted to race it.  She also wanted a racing jersey just like mom and dad’s. With the downloading of the team font, a free hand copy of the the team logo, and a little freezer paper stenciling, she […]

The Summer Starts with Mountain Bike Racing

by This is Carrie on June 12, 2010

I don’t know what else says “Summer’s here!” like the start of the Over the Hump Mountain Bike race series. Todd and I decided to take turns racing while the other one is in charge of the cheering section (aka: kids).  This year the course is awesome with the addition of a cool water bridge […]

Learning to Ride a Balance Bike

by This is Carrie on May 28, 2010

After struggling to teach Pumpkin how to ride a two-wheel bike using the traditional “training wheels” route and then finding almost immediate success with a homemade pedal-less bike, we knew we would never see another set of training wheels around our house. For Baby Brother’s second birthday we knew we wanted to get him his […]

The Traverse

by This is Carrie on May 26, 2010

7 hours, 21 minutes and 8 seconds of continuous mountain biking. 40+ miles with 8,000+ feet of elevation gain. This was Todd’s “marathon”. We couldn’t be there to cheer for him along on the course, but we were there ready with hugs (and a bunch of pride) at the finish line.

Triathlon Report: The Race

by This is Carrie on March 31, 2010

It was the first off-road triathlon Todd & I had ever done together so there was a little part of me that hoped I’d come out of the water before him.  I had to count on him having a small panic attack somewhere during the swim, but it was possible. After the swim, there was […]
