Making Stuff: Patio Set Refashion

by This is Carrie on June 23, 2011

Picture 6 iron chairs whose crumbling fiberboard seats were covered with no less than 5 different vinyl coverings (I actually loved the orange floral I found somewhere in the middle).  Wait, don’t picture it. It was too pathetic.  Now picture them with fresh wood seat bases (thank you dad for doing the cutting) a layer […]

Making Stuff: Acid Wash Overall Refashion

by This is Carrie on May 18, 2011

Here’s another one of my failed attempts to introduce 80’s fashion to my kids.  I was so disappointed, it’s taken me nine months to post about it.  Finding a pair of boys acid-wash overalls made me a little nostalgic.  I quickly turned them into a RAD girls skirtall.  I knew it wasn’t going to end […]

by This is Carrie on May 17, 2011

by This is Carrie on May 11, 2011

Every one of these shirts was either handed down, thrifted, stained or otherwise headed to the giveaway pile.  With reverse appliqué (using other t-shirt and fabric scraps), these shirts have been given a new life.  Reverse appliqué is not new in the crafting world, but it’s good to remember it’s not just a technique for […]

I’m happy to be a part of the “Puppet Play: 20 Puppet Projects Made with Recycled Mittens, Towels, Socks & More” blog book tour because there is nothing I love more than recycled crafts and creative play.  Luckily, we got our copy of Diana Schoenbrun’s new book just in time for a fun, Spring Break, […]

Making Stuff: Easter Dresses

by This is Carrie on April 27, 2011

When I was lucky enough to find an amazing old quilt top at my favorite thrift and vintage store a few months back, I immediately knew I wanted to use it for this year’s Easter dresses. The thickness of the quilt top (each square was backed with a piece of fabric) dictated the simple lines […]
