Making Stuff: Crocheted Vest for Brother & GIVEAWAY!!

by This is Carrie on April 18, 2011

The first project that called out to me from the new and totally awesome book “Little Crochet” was the “Sock It To Me Sweater Vest”.  I love little boys in little sweater vests, but finding pre-made vests beyond the color navy is seriously difficult.

If the vest looks a little small, that’s because it is.  The plan was to make the vest for The Baby so I followed the instructions for the 0-6 months sized vest.  But, because of my own laziness, I did not do a gauge swatch (doh!) so the vest came out a little big.

Luckily, I like the look of a “shrunken sweater vest” on Big Brother.  I still like to squeeze him into an 18-24m robot jacquard vest I adore (which is about what size this little sweater came out to be).

Can’t wait to make another one in size 3-4.  This time I’ll start with a gauge swatch. I promise.

Pattern: Sock it to Me Sweater Vest from Little Crochet

Yarn: Patons Kroy Socks FX in Camo Colors & Knit Picks Stroll in Fedora

Hook: US D3/3.25mm

**in the book this pattern is listed as in intermediate level project and I would agree.  Linda advised me to take my time getting the neck shape round of single crochet stitches just right.  That was great advice.

And now for the GIVEAWAY!

I have a copy of Little Crochet (courtesy of the publisher) to giveaway so you can make a Little Crochet Project of your very own!  Whether you are new to crocheting or an old pro, this book has something for you.  All you have to do is CLICK OVER HERE, take a look at all the fabulous projects in Little Crochet and then come back and tell me which is your favorite (you can see my favorites HERE).

Winner will be selected using a random number generator and will be announced on Saturday, April 23.  Winner will also be contacted by e-mail.  If the winner does not respond within 3 days, a new winner will be chosen.  US Addresses only.

The ribbed cardigan is my choice. My 2 little girls would look darling in these and I would love to make everything in the book!

I am just learning to crochet and this would be awesome! I love the t-shirt applique and I really want to learn how to make the hats and leggings.

I think it’s a tie between the little crawler leggings and the modern bonnet. Cute stuff!

I love the ribbed cardigan, the modern bonnet, nad the sweet daisy sundress. I haven’t done much crochet, but I want to teach myself and start to do some.

I say the owl pillow and the Giraffe are two that caught my eye, but there are so many things I would love to be able to make. Teaching myself to crochet and looking for all the helpful tips I can get!

I know I’m late for the giveaway. I just wanted to say I was more than a little relieved to hear that someone else “forgets” (is that an appropriate word? heh) to do a gauge swatch. I had a shrug 3/4 of the way done before I realized it was never going to fit, even with a super hot wash and looooooong stay in the dryer. Mad at myself, I frogged it and turned it into a skirt for Tess instead. Looks way better that way.

Kudos on the vest – looks adorable. I’m in love with sweater vests myself. Our Target has had a plaid shirt/argyle peach vest combo on their racks for a while. Waiting for them to go more on sale…
