When I heard Nuun (my favorite electrolyte drink company)was putting together an all female, all blogger team for the Hood to Coast relay event in August, I knew I had to put my name into the hat. I got my first taste of team relay running at the relay last year with the ladies of eat. blog. run and quickly fell in love. And Hood to Coast? It’s the “mother of all relays”. It’s a “bucket” list relay. It’s so epic, there’s a documentary that’s been made about it.
Of course, I had to grab one of my favorite running buddies and creative cohorts to make sure our “application” was memorable.
I felt full disclosure on night drooling is imporant when you will be spending an entire weekend with someone in tight quarters.
We also included a “running resume” of sorts, featuring a few stats & reasons why we needed to be on the team.
yep! we’re women, we’re runners, we’re bloggers & we drink nuun. but that’s not all… “we know how to rock a relay! with over 2 dozen races completed between the two of us (from 5K’s, to marathons, to relays), you might call us serious runners. sure we like to go fast, but we also believe in putting the “fun back into the run.” and in the running world, we know there is nothing quite as fun as a relay race.
with seven kids (eight & under) between the two of us, we’re crazy good at multi-tasking. That means amidst all the running, we are excellent at: cheerleading, photographing, live tweeting, facebooking, navigating, injury taping, car decorating, team builing, costume wearing, tune picking, blogging, snack eating, nuun drinking, videotaping & friend making.
trust us, we are the dynamic duo you don’t want to run a relay without.”
Well, this week they announced that kelly & i have made one of two nuun relay teams! We will be joining 18 other amazing bloggers & 6 alternates that will run a relay made of “stunning scenery, sweaty people in a van together for 24 hours, running in the dark with a headlamp and head-to-toe reflectors, tomfoolery galore (& maybe some singing?) before a dramatic finish on the oregon coast, and a giant party on the beach with all of your friends.”
Check out my “running all star” teammates (I’m going to really have to step up my training this summer): alanna, alyssa, carrie, dorothy, emily, harmony, jess, jocelyn, kerrie, lauren, lisa, margot, megan, mel, melody, susan, tonia, tricia, XLMIC and possibly michelle, christy, sloan, lindsey, jill & phoebe.

I drove the van for my company’s HTC team for a couple of years. Such incredible memories. Wish I were a runner so I could have more fully participated, but it was still awesome. Yay!
Congrats! Hood to Coast runs right through our little town (Sandy) and we love cheering on the runners.

Misha – I’m so glad you picked up running! There are so many days when I don’t love it at all. It’s torture to get out there, but I am so glad I stick with it because there are great rewards when you do.
I won’t give *up not *you
Congrats on being selected for the team! I am loving your sparkle skirts. I hope I get to run, not that I really want anyone else to get hurt or have to drop out!
This is big time…your own magazine cover??? Wow…too cool! Look forward to running with you ladies (S)NUUN!!

totally jealous of this. you will have a blast
SOOOOOO Excited to be on a team and in a van with both of you. This will be an ADVENTURE!! I have never run a Relay before so will need loads of guidance..
Hugs!! Mel
Hood to coast is the toga party of relays! Such a fun race. You should try the donut challenge (when you have to eat a donut when you see your teamate and have it finished by the time you start running). It’s a fun little thing to do. I ran leg 12 and have to say that running the last leg through the forest to the finish on the beach is the best EVER!!
